Launch of the Procedure to appoint The president of Sciences Po

08/06/2021 | 12:00 Press Releases
Paris, 8 June, 2021 - Sciences Po announces the launch of the process to appoint its new President, with the publication on 9 June of a public call for candidates in the Journal Officiel and on the Sciences Po website. This appointment covers both the mandate of Administrator of the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (FNSP) and the Presidency of the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (IEP or Sciences Po). The term of office is five years, renewable twice.
Applications will be open until 31 August 2021. At the end of this period, the proposal committee set up by Sciences Po’s two governing bodies, in accordance with the institution's statutes, will make a preliminary selection of candidates. The proposal committee will forward their names to the FNSP’s Board of Directors and the IEP’s Board of Directors on 20 October 2021, at which time Sciences Po will make public the list of shortlisted candidates.
After interviewing the candidates, each Board will vote to choose one candidate. In the event of a concordant vote by the two Boards, their choice will be communicated to the appointing authorities, namely the President of the Republic and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
At various stages of the process, the proposal committee will be assisted in the selection of candidates by the management consultant firm Russell-Reynolds Associates. Particular attention will be paid not only to the candidates’ experience and their ability to develop an innovative strategic vision, but also to their exemplary commitment to high ethical and deontological standards.
The role of the proposal committee
In accordance with the statutes, the FNSP’s Board of Directors and the IEP’s Board of Directors have set up a proposal committee. Its role is to receive, assess, and pre-select the applications received. Co-chaired by Laurence Bertrand Dorléac, Chair of the FNSP’s Board of Directors, and Jeanne Lazarus, President of the IEP’s Board of Directors, the proposal committee is composed of 12 individuals: the members of the steering committees, and four qualified persons. Each of the Boards has, by vote, nominated two figures external to Sciences Po. All the information related to the appointment process, including the full list of members of the proposal committee, can be found on a dedicated page of the Sciences Po website (
Throughout June, contributions from individuals and communities at Sciences Po can be submitted on the Sciences Po website to allow everyone to share their vision for the institution's future direction.
